I'm Justine from Wonderbreath. 

As babies, we are born the perfect breathers. If you get the chance to watch one, have a look and see how their little tummies inflate and deflate. They model the perfect diaphragmatic breath. But as we go through life, we pick up bad habits and more importantly, find ourselves experiencing anything from minor upsets to big traumas. In the moments when these happen, we automatically hold our breath. Adding to all this, in social and perhaps work situations, we tend to hold back from expressing ourselves fully. That's down to things like social stigma (not great to cry in the supermarket) or fear (I'll probably get the sack if I start shouting now) which prevents our emotions from exiting our bodies. The problem is, suppressing our emotions and holding our breath tends to lead to poor breathing patterns in adulthood. And that's not good for our physical and emotional health, as well as our immune systems.

Most of us are actually only getting between 25 and 30% of the air capacity into our lungs that we could be if only our breathing was a little more open and if we were more conscious of our breathing patterns. Did you know that breath is our main source of energy?  It’s not food (or coffee!) as you may have thought.  Instead, over 70%, of the energy that we use on a day-to-day basis comes from our breathing.


Isn’t that amazing?

Most of our breathing is unconscious, meaning we're not really aware of it. It’s just, well, happening isn’t it?  We’re taught how to count, draw and brush our teeth, but rarely how to breathe. And yet it’s essential, because without good breathing, we’re not fully living. We’re not at our optimum health.  Yet when you make breathing a priority and learn how to breathe effectively, it’s an incredibly  powerful tool that will enhance your life in every way. You'll begin receiving more oxygen into your lungs which in turn nurtures and regenerates your cells.  Yogis and those practicing other ancient arts call this lifeforce energy.

Breathing better will remove more toxins from your body, boost your immune system (particularly important right now) and allow you to let go of all that emotional baggage you’ve been carrying around with you for years. 

Breath work can very deep and very powerful, taking you to places you’ve never been before. It’s a revelation to most of my clients. And whilst meditation can do wonders for quietening the mind, you’ll soon find that breathwork is on a whole other level.
